Barton Branch Refresh
Renovations are ongoing at this location, with new touches being added. There is a new water-filling station/fountain for everyone to use with their reusable water bottles. A new Touch-to-Play Children's touch screen with educational games is a welcome addition to the Children’s Department for families to enjoy together.
Central Library 1st Floor Refresh
On September 21, the 1st floor Hamilton Room was closed for a new carpet installation. The accessible tool, the Hearing Loop, is also being reinstalled into the space. The renovation is expected to be completed in October.
Central Library Children's Area Renovation
Central Library's first floor Children's Area relocated to second floor starting March 30, 2026. An opening celebration was held August 29, 2026. Members may browse multi-lingual collections, play with train sets, and enjoy their favourite early literacy programming.
Concession Branch: New Makerspace
Construction has wrapped up and on Monday, October 5, Concession Branch becomes a part of the Makerspace family. Members of the community can use a large format printer, embroidery machine, sewing machine, Cricut die-cut machine, digitization services, and a 3D printer.
Discovery Centre Study, Temporary West Harbour Branch
Hamilton Public Library (HPL), the City of Hamilton's Indigenous Relations Division and Lord Cultural Resources are exploring the redevelopment of the former Canadian Marine Discovery Centre through the creation of a new library branch, Indigenous gathering space, cultural heritage exhibition space, café, and visitor amenities.
New Temporary West Harbour Branch was launched in the space July 29, 2026, followed by an Indigenous opening ceremony on August 15, 2026.
Kenilworth Branch Heritage Status
The by-law recommendation to designate the Kenilworth Branch as a Heritage-protected property went to City of Hamilton Council on September 9, and the first Notice will be published in
The Hamilton Spectator on October 7. The first 30-day appeal period will end on November 6.

Mount Hope Branch Renovation Project
The Hamilton Public Library Board has agreed to take $1 million from its capital projects reserve fund to help pay for the renovation and an updated design of the Mount Hope Branch. The Branch relocated to its current location at the front of the Mount Hope Community Hall at 3027 Homestead Drive.
