Central Library Children’s Area Renovation

Update: June 2026

The new and improved Children's Department is now open on the 2nd floor of Central Library. From Storytimes to Children's programming and collections, families and caregivers can now enjoy activities on the southwest side. Surrounded by bright walls and natural light, more colourful graphics and decor touches are expected this summer to help complete the renovation project.

Update: May 2026

The first phase of construction of the 2nd floor of the new Children's Area has now wrapped up. You'll notice that bright, freshly painted walls surround the space on the southwest side. Collections and an Information Desk are being added in time for the launch date (to be announced soon). The Children's Area will be completed in several phases; fun graphics and vinyls are planned for installation next for families to enjoy and interact with.

Renovations of the Central Library's former 1st floor Children's Area continue. Stay tuned for the additions coming to that new-and-improved, soon-to-be-renamed space.

Update: April 2026

Renovations of Central Library's 1st floor Children's Area began on March 30, 2026. A temporary Children's Area pop-up is currently available on the 2nd floor on the northeast side by the Piano Room. Members may browse multi-lingual collections, play with train sets, and enjoy their favourite early literacy programming.

A new and improved Children's Area is being constructed on the 2nd floor on the southwest side. Currently, all work is scheduled to take place during open hours and after hours.

Renovations are expected to wrap up by late April.
